The Story

The year is 1768 in a Japan that never was. Times are tough. Oni, Dragons, and goblins no longer roam the land like they used to, but it is certain that they still exist. Lives in the cities are hard, the people forced to go through great suffrage, the threat of execution for rebellion always hanging above their heads. People are beginning to lean away from the old times of Honor and magic; there are fewer sorcerors and oracles now than there had ever been. The Emperor is Emperor Furugato, a weak willed, meek old man whose counselors take control of his affairs. Unbeknownst to the old man, his couselors have been issuing attacks on small, defenseless villages, enslaving and killing their people. Their ploy expands the Emperor's power and increases their hold over him.

The shoguns of Japan have always been the true rulers of the nation, but in this case it is not so. The young Shogun has been reduced to an underling to the emperor and his counselors. Needless to say, the young shogun is very bitter about this...

Also in this time, there are several secret schools of Ninja Brotherhoods. One school, the Hikage, has grown corrupt and has been hired by an unknown contact. The Hikage ninjas are deployed to launch attacks on government officials, leaving a trail of blood and sorrow in their wake. The other schools grow bitter towards the Hikage, proclaiming a war between the ninja clans. Who is this unknown contact?

The people have one final hope that keeps them going; A prophecy that a saviour will come and releive the people of their burden. The savior is called the Shugotenshi, a winged hero that will take the Japanese people and overthrow their corrupt superiors, leading them to happiness and freedom.
